7th Annual Art of Recycling School Competition

7th Annual Art of Recycling School Competition, Kona, Waimea and Kea`au, Hawai`i Island

  Recycle Hawaii will be holding its 7th Annual Art of Recycling School Competition. Three separate competitions and exhibits will be held across the island of Hawaii during the month of April to coincide with island-wide Earth Day events. The Art of Recycling School Competition (ARSC) strives to increase environmental awareness and encourage recycling and sustainable practices at schools and in the community. Youth ages 6 to 18 years from public, independent, charter, and home schools or community youth organizations are eligible to submit original creations made in class or at home from recycled or reusable materials.


Hawaiiana Live

Hawaiiana Live, The Palace Theater, Hilo, Hawai`i

Howard Shapiro, Executive Director of Performing and Fine Artists for World Peace and Marsha Hee will be the featured guest artists at this series of presentations that promotes Native Hawaiian culture. Marsha will be reading a story they co-wrote entitled "Message from the Misty Forest." Howard will share his orignal song "Listen to the Forest" that accompanies the storybook as well as songs from his Ka `Aina CD.


Recycle Bowl Awards Ceremony

Recycle Bowl Awards Ceremony, Pahoa, Hawai`i

In May 2011 Pahoa High and Intermediate School was recognized as one of our Earth-Friendly Schools. They have continued promoting environmental awareness and action and were the winners for the state of Hawai`i for the first Recycle Bowl sponsored by Keep America Beautiful. An awards ceremony will take place at their school. During the ceremony the school will receive a plaque and check in recognition for their excellent work. Honored guests and the media have been invited to the event.
